Katniss is a 16-year-old girl living with her mother and younger sister in the poorest district of Panem, the remains of what used be the United States. Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district agreed to send one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called, “The Hunger Games.” The terrain, rules, and level of audience participation may change but one thing is constant: kill or be killed. When Kat’s sister is chosen by lottery, Kat steps up to go in her place.
All I can say is WOW! What an amazing story! Katniss is a great character who you grow to love. How can you not as she struggles for her life and the lives of her family. Once you pick this book up you will not be able to put it down. You have to know what horrifying thing the Capitol is going to do next.
This book will stay with you long after you read the last page.
There is also lots of movie talks. I think this would be a great movie! I would be first in line to see it.
I so happy I waited a while to read this book so that I don’t have such a long wait for Catching Fire.
