Guest Post: Jenny from Wondrous Reads Shares Her Twilight Convention Experience

by Lori

Today I would like to welcome Jenny from Wondrous Reads to tell us about the Twilight Convention.

Twilight Conventions: Events to Sink Your Teeth Into

During the weekend of 16th – 18th October 2009, 800+ Twilight fans arrived in Northampton, England, for the UK’s second Eternal Twilight convention: New Moon Rising.
Actors from both the Twilight and New Moon movies were present, including: Rachelle Lefevre (Victoria), Edi Gathegi (Laurent), Chaske Spencer (Sam Uley), Tyson Houseman (Quil Ateara) and Gil Birmingham (Billy Black). Each guest was lovely, with Rachelle being my overall favourite – she was just so talkative and down to earth. It’s such a shame she won’t be returning for the Eclipse movie – the franchise just won’t be the same without her! I must admit, I was *slightly* excited to meet Gil, as he appeared in the Season 2 Buffy episode, ‘Inca Mummy Girl’. Believe it or not, I like Buffy more than Twilight, so I was definitely looking forward to meeting him.
Over the weekend, there was a hectic checklist of things to get done, attend and remember. Each guest signed autographs and participated in professional photoshoots, and also gave several guest talks in the afternoons. The talks never cease to fascinate me, and I love hearing all the on-set gossip and banter between the cast. My favourite story from this convention was one that Chaske Spencer recalled: Taylor Lautner (Jacob) was getting ready to shoot a scene, and was doing his “dreamy teen heartthrob” thing, when he walked straight into a glass door. Now there’s a (very funny) story you don’t get to read in the magazines!
Saturday night’s Vampire Masquerade Ball was a personal highlight of mine, as I got to see some fantastic costumes, and had fun talking to the actors when they came and sat at our table. Rachelle had a beautiful mask, and I had a great music talk with Chaske… it turns out he knows a thing or two about UK bands!

The best thing about conventions, besides getting to meet the actors behind the characters, is meeting people and forming lasting friendships. There’s nothing better than getting to talk to people who share your interests, and I’m so glad I get to experience these events twice a year. The next one is in February, and I’m already counting down the days until I can get on a train and head to Birmingham. New venue, new guests… I can’t wait!
