Love can be a dangerous thing….
Hanna simply wants to be loved. With a head plagued by hallucinations, a medicine cabinet full of pills, and a closet stuffed with frilly, violet dresses, Hanna’s tired of being the outcast, the weird girl, the freak. So she runs away to Portero, Texas in search of a new home.
But Portero is a stranger town than Hanna expects. As she tries to make a place for herself, she discovers dark secrets that would terrify any normal soul. Good thing for Hanna, she’s far from normal. As this crazy girl meets an even crazier town, only two things are certain: Anything can happen and no one is safe.
My Thoughts:
When Hanna runs away from home to find her mother, she didn’t expect Portero. A place that’s even crazier than she is.
I honestly don’t even know where to start. I want to say so much. This book had so many different elements. On one level it was an Urban Fantasy. On another it was a story about a very crazy girl. I don’t mean crazy as in let’s go have some fun, I mean Crazy with a capital C.
It pulled me in from the very first chapter though. What a great way to start a book. Some of the things that come out of Hanna and Rosalee’s month are just Wow! All of the characters are superb. Reeves has a gift with characterization. Even though Hanna is off her rocker most of the time I was never left questioning her motives, like I seem to do in so many other young adult books. I loved to hate some of the characters and just plain loved the others. Wyatt is an example of the latter. He is prefect for Hanna. I was so worried throughout the entire thing that Hanna would screw things up. Any book that makes me worry about the characters is a 5 star book for me.
The setting, Portero, Texes is really what makes the story. It almost reminds me of Morganville in the Morganville Vampires series, without vampires. If that makes sense. It’s the kind of place where you could die just waking to the mailbox and not by normal means. You could die by giant flying leeches. Scary.
This book was one mind-blowing crazy wild ride. I loved every second of it. Just when you thought things couldn’t get weirder, they did. In a genre filled with books about things that go bump in the night Bleeding Violet is sure to stand out. With amazingly crazy characters, and a awesome setting this book is sure to please. Now we just need a sequel!
5 Stars!

*coughs* Anyhow, I totally agree with you about Hanna and Reeves' excellent characterization. I never questioned her motivations, even though she sometimes does things that make me go 'oh gawd that's not going to go down well'. I love this novel so much. ♥
Anyhow, I linked your review here. If you'd rather not be linked, just let me know and I'll take it down asap. =D
Sounds very interesting! Dropping by from the January review post on The Story Siren.
I'm reading this now. I hope I like it as much as you!!!
Bleeding Violet is definitely an interesting book! Portero reminded me of Morganville too, I'm glad I'm not the only one! I wasn't really sure what to think after I was done with it, it was different than I though it would be. The characters were what really held my attention and had me reading until the end.
