Welcome to my new feature, Dragging Up the Past, where we are going to spotlight not necessarily old books but books that don’t get as much attention as they deserve. Hopefully this is going to become a every Tuesday thing. With a different book and a different Blogger every week.
Here’s this week’s Dragging Up the Past by Me!
I picked up Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld at the bookstore one day. It was on the Recommended table. This was a time in my life when I wasn’t reading that often. I started reading right away, not knowing what to expect. At this time when I did read it mostly read things like Anita Blake. So this was definitely something different.
Prep is the story of a girl that gets a scholarship to a very elite boarding school in Massachusetts. She’s very excited to go but from day one realizes it’s not going to be like she dreamed. She deals with all the normal teenage drama or should I say she doesn’t deal with it very well.
I looked up this book on Goodreads to get some inspiration on writing this and I was shocked at the number of negative reviews this book has. So now you might be asking your self “Why are you doing a feature on it then?” Because I loved this book! It spoke to me. I can understand why some people might not like it. The main character, Lee brings a lot of her troubles on herself. She has plenty of issues that teens can relate to but she doesn’t deal with them very well. I guess the reason I liked it so much was because I was a pretty shy teen and I could relate to that in Lee.
I recommend this book to anyone that didn’t fit in in high school. It’s not a light fluffy read but if your like me it will remain a favorite.
I would like to have a different Blogger highlighting a book every week. So if you would like to write a post for this feature please e-mail me at pureimagination77(at)gmail(dot)com
