Meghan Chase has never fit in at her small-town high school, and now, on the eve of her 16th birthday, she discovers why. When her half brother is kidnapped, Meghan is drawn into a fantastical world she never imagined–the world of Faery, where anything you see may try to eat you, and Meghan is the daughter of the summer faery king. Now she will journey into the depths of Faery to face an unknown enemy . . . and beg the help of a winter prince who might as soon kill her as let her touch his icy heart. The Iron King is the first book in the Iron Fey series.

My Thoughts:

I have been longing for this book for some time now. I wanted to read it before the cover was even released! So when it downloaded to my Kindle early, I was ecstatic! I love a good book about Faeries but their are so many out there. It’s hard to find something original. I can honestly say that Julie Kagawa has written something truly original!

Sure, it has some of the same elements as other faerie books but that’s because they are based on the same mythology! I love that! And Kagawa takes The Iron King to places no other faerie tale has been before. I don’t want to ruin anything but let me just say that the new elements Julie added to the fae realm were fantastic! The imagery was outstanding!

All of the characters were also fantastic. Hell, the whole book was fantastic! Back to the characters, Meghan was a great lead. She was strong and smart when other people, me included would have just given up. All the side characters was also wonderful. Being a cat lover, of course I loved Grim. Julie, can I have my own Grim? Puck and Ash were everything you want in fae love interests! I think I’m going to have to side with Puck on this one though!

All in all The Iron King was a unputdownable book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and need a sequel like right now!

4 1/2 Stars!
