Being a vegetarian is an idea I have toyed around with for years. I think in the back of my head I always thought I would get around to it eventually. When I was ready….I think I’m ready now! I was watching Ellen last week and she was talking about the book, Eating Animals by Johnathon Safran Foer. I looked the book up on Amazon and ordered it right away. It arrived today and I plan on reading it in between books. I have a feeling that after reading this book I will never think twice about eating meat again. Here’s the blurb:
Jonathan Safran Foer spent much of his teenage and college years oscillating between carnivore and vegetarian. As he became a husband and a father, he kept returning to two questions: Why do we eat animals? And would we eat them if we knew how they got on our dinner plates?
Brilliantly synthesizing philosophy, literature, science, and his own undercover detective work, Eating Animals explores the many fictions we use to justify our eating habits-from folklore to pop culture to family traditions and national myth-and how such tales justify a brutal ignorance. Marked by Foer’s profound moral ferocity and unvarying generosity, as well as the vibrant style and creativity that made his previous books, Everything is Illuminated and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, huge bestsellers, Eating Animals is a celebration and a reckoning, a story about the stories we’ve told–and the stories we now need to tell.
I plan on not buying any meat for me on the next trip to the grocery store but what I really need help with is cookbooks! I know some of you guys have to be vegetarians! So please suggest vegetarian cookbooks with fairly simple recipes and I will appreciate it for ever! So will the cows!
Anyone know any good vegetarian websites or blogs? I know this is going be hard so I would love to find some support sites! I’m going to have to learn a whole new way to eat. I’m actually really excited about it!

Hey Lori, I've been vegetarian for over 15 years and vegan for the last 4 or so, you can send me an email if you have any questions or need support–its on my blog. Check out the Skinny Bitch Series, they have a lot of good alternatives and recipes…Moosewood Restaurant also makes some good veggie cookbooks. Good luck!
