Josie’s never met her dad, and that’s fine with her. To Josie, Paul Tucci is just a guy who got her mom pregnant and then moved away. It all happened sixteen years ago, when Josie’s mom was still a teenager herself. But now Paul Tucci is back in town, and Josie has to deal with not one but two men in her life—her father and her first boyfriend, who Josie fears will hurt her just like Paul hurt her mother.
I had read some reviews before reading For Keeps that compared it to Gilmore Girls. Which is one of my favorite shows ever! So I was pretty excited to read it. Kate was young when she had Josie. She has raised her on her own. Josie’s dad has never been around. Unfortunately, that is where the similarities stop.
In the beginning of For Keeps I was really enjoying it but as soon as the plot started to thicken, I started to become increasingly annoyed with Josie, the main character. She acted like a 12 year old when it came to dealing with anything big. She was jealous and snotty. In other words….I didn’t like her.
That wasn’t enough to make me put the book down though. I had time invested in it. I actually did want to find out how it ended. The overall story line was good. If a little predictable. It kept me reading. Even with all the bratty-ness. All the other characters were a bit more likable. I really liked Josie’s best friend, Liv and her dads.
I really wanted to like For Keeps by Natasha Friend more but I just couldn’t. The main character and I just weren’t compatible. I’m sure others will love it. So please still read it. All in all it was a interesting book.
