New sparks will fly in the sequel to Simone Elkeles’s breakout book Perfect Chemistry.
When Carlos Fuentes returns to America after living in Mexico for a year, he doesn’t want any part of the life his older brother, Alex, has laid out for him at a high school in Colorado. Carlos likes living his life on the edge and wants to carve his own path—just like Alex did. Then he meets Kiara Westford. She doesn’t talk much and is completely intimidated by Carlos’ wild ways. As they get to know one another, Carlos assumes Kiara thinks she’s too good for him, and refuses to admit that she might be getting to him. But he soon realizes that being himself is exactly what Kiara needs right now.
With new characters to fall in love with and the same hot romance found in Perfect Chemistry, Simone Elkeles has crafted another sure-fire hit for teens.
I’m in love with Simone Elkeles‘ books. I think that if I didn’t have so many books to read already I could just read them over and over. Perfect Chemistry was simply amazing. It was the first YA drama romance that I had read in years. It made me start reading them again. So I admit I had some pretty high expectations for this book. 98% of the time when my expectations are that high I am disappointed with the book. I wasn’t disappointed with Rules of Attraction. In fact I adored it.
Carlos was of course the ultimate Bad Boy. With a capital B. He didn’t live by the rules. In fact he broke as many as he could. Kiara is very different from most girls. Her idea of a good time is fixing up her car and going mountain climbing with her gay best friend. There couldn’t be two people more different but that’s what Simone Elkeles is good at. Making opposites attract in a believable way.
And Wow! Do they attract! The chemistry and passion between Carlos and Kiara is incredible! Simone really has a gift for writing characters that you fall in love with, root for, and totally connect with. I loved Carlos almost as much as I loved Alex in Perfect Chemistry. I’m really trying not to compare the two books too much because they are different. While they of course had some similarities, Kiara and Carlos’ story was very different than Alex and Brittany’s.
Overall, I can’t sing Rules of Attraction‘s praises enough. While I liked Perfect Chemistry more, this book was definitely everything I wanted it to be and then some. If you haven’t read any of Simone’s books you are missing out on some of the greatest YA out there. Read them! You won’t be disappointed!
