Today I have Candace, from Candace’s Book Blog with us to share her thoughts on Twilight and about her trip to Forks!
My love affair with Twilight… well, I’ve actually never considered it a love affair. I loved the books. And I read them before they were really big and really popular. So when it became a huge sensation I honestly felt a bit embarrassed. I’m not sure why, exactly, but for some reason it’s just embarrassing to love something that teenage girls are FREAKING out about. Well, and plenty of moms as well, but that’s another story. I just am NOT one of them. I love Twilight, but I prefer to keep my love to myself. I haven’t even reread the books because I’m afraid that the magic will be gone. I liked them the first time around, could I really love them that much again? Especially since I now feel almost a prejudice. I mean, it’s just wrong how I feel. But it’s MY feelings, so hah!
However… I was SO excited when my MOM, yes, my super religious mom, who thinks vampires are EVIL, listened to Twilight on audio. She liked it! *GASP!* So I think she read the rest of the series and then when she was here just a few weeks ago she watched New Moon (for the first time) with my sister Tiffany, who has NOT read the books or even watched Twilight, and my mom was so freaking hilarious! She was so into it and was telling Tiffany all the details of everything (she didn’t even know everything, but she thought she did!) and I just stood there and laughed. Seriously watching my mom like that was completely hilarious but still shocking. I mean really, what would the people from church think?!
Last year in the early Spring we took our family vacation to the Olympic Peninsula. We only live a couple hours away so it seemed ridiculous that we had never been. I’ve lived here for 10 years so yeah, ridiculous.
We drove into Aberdeen and I grabbed my camera to take a picture of the sign saying Aberdeen and my camera said “NO MEMORY CARD”!!!!! OMG! I was SO MAD! I’d forgotten it in the computer! So no camera. I ended up buying a disposable one but it was a water one so very poor quality photos.
We had a fantastic time in the rain forest and on the coast, but really, you just want to hear about Forks, right?
We drove into Forks and I was very excited (secretly). My eyes were trying to take everything in. Now when I say they were trying to take everything in you would think there would be lots to see, right? Wrong. Nope, Forks is a small town, fairly spread out, but pretty boring really. But I still just tried to imagine why Stephenie Meyer set it there. It was in a more open area, not that many trees (yes, on the outskirts but not as many IN town) and it was a very sunny day. Luckily excitement is sort of catching. We stopped at a gas station/Subway and they had maps for Twilight fans. And there was a family that drove all the way from California JUST TO SEE FORKS FROM TWILIGHT! Okay, so that shocked me for some reason. I mean, we were there because we were driving through and I was curious, but to drive that far JUST for that? Oh well. But they were gushing and freaking out and wanted to see Bella’s house and you know what was really really crazy? They seemed to think it was REALLY Bella’s house. Like she’s real and really lives there. The lady kept saying that she couldn’t tell them because of privacy reasons for the owners but the people didn’t understand why Bella wouldn’t really be there. Hmmm… yeah, there’s a few crazies out there. And no Lori, your not one of them. You may crazy for Twilight, but your not ‘A’ crazy.
After leaving there we drove down Main Street where we saw a Twilight store and a Twilight tour bus. So we got out to get some Twilight souvenirs. I got some magnets and other inexpensive items for Lori and some other friends that love Twilight. And we ran into a few more crazies who weren’t comprehending that Bella and Edward didn’t really live there. Hmmm… I bet the people in Forks are really wondering about the outside world.
Anyway, the trip was great and it was fun seeing where Bella and Edward ‘live’. I’ll look forward to going again someday! I’m very very sad that I have no pictures though 🙁
Anyway, enjoy Twilight takeover, and enjoy Eclipse (yes, I’m a teeny bit excited. Okay, maybe a lot…).
In celebration of Twilight Takeover I’m giving away a copy of the Twilight Graphic novel at my blog HERE.
