I’m so excited to have an author as part of my Twilight Takeover. Especially one as talented as Kimberly Derting! Here is why Kim wants to marry Stephenie Meyer:
Why I Want To Marry Stephenie Meyer
My oldest daughter was never a reader. She wasn’t a reluctant reader, she was a non-reader. I used to write huge checks to the Scholastic Book Fairs at her school, desperately trying to find a book, ANY BOOK, she would fall in love with. I signed her up for summer reading programs at the library, I bought her the books I loved growing up with (and everything her friends were reading). We owned the largest library of un-read children’s book in Washington State!
And you know what? Nothing I tried worked! I was sad she was missing out on something that was so important to me. I had been a reader; I just assumed that my kids would be too. Apparently, that isn’t something that gets passed along to your children…well, at least not to mine!
Of course, I’m stubborn (surprise, right?), and I never really gave up. So when I read Twilight, my first thought (okay, my second one after: “I think I’m in love with a sparkly vampire.”) was that this might be The Book, the one that would FINALLY persuade my daughter to become a reader. She was less convinced, and it took months (maybe even a year, and an awful lot of nagging!) to talk her into reading it. I’m SO glad I persisted because once she read it, the floodgates opened!
She raced though Twilight within days, borrowed New Moon and tore through that in no time, came back for Eclipse and then Breaking Dawn. Then she re-read them all and even downloaded the audiobook versions so she could listen to them. Again!
I think it’s safe to say that she was hooked, and it only took me about 20 years! YAY for stubbornness!
After Twilight, she’s since moved on to other books…many, many others. For her last birthday, all she asked for were Barnes & Noble gift cards because she can no longer afford her reading habit. *cries happy tears*
How could I not love Twilight? Not just because of the enjoyment the series brought me, but for changing my daughter’s life. For making her A READER!
Thank you, Stephenie Meyer!!!

I was in a major book slump before I read Twilight, now I run a book blog and speed through about 5 books a week! Yay Stephanie Meyer!

Needless to say, that's one thing where Meyer's worked wonders

My daughter was the same way! Total non-reader until I talked her into trying Twilight. She reads all the time now!

I agree with Kate, except I still read about 5 books a week before I read Twilight

Yay for Stephaine Meyers!!! I think she got a lot of people reading. I've always been a reader but for a year and a half I couldn't read due to a mission for the church I'm a memeber of and when I got back I lost my desire but Stephaine Meyers and the Twilight Series brought me right back!!! YAY for Edward!!

Great guest post! I think the best thing about Twilight was all the people who became readers because of it

YAY! I'm so glad Kim wrote this up for you. When she told us this at her signing I just felt so happy for her because I know I'll be devastated if my kids don't love books (so far my daughter loves books though!). I know Twilight has got MANY people reading so that is awesome!

I love it when a book is so popular that it inspires many non-readers to pick up a book!

That's so great to hear! I think the books had a lot of inspiration on teenagers and older readers to read more. I did on me.

This is such a great story! I love it! There's just something about Twilight that makes it totally addicting. Behold the power of a compelling read.
