I’m excited to have Jenny from Wondrous Reads here today! She’s going to tell us about her favorite Twilight merchandise!
In addition to collecting Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel merchandise, I also collect anything Twilight Saga related. I’ve been collecting Twilight stuff for close to 3 years, and have a pretty large collection. It’s got to the point where I now just have to cherry pick, because there’s so much movie memorabilia, and not all of it is good (Barbie dolls, anyone?).
I realised when thinking about this post that I can’t actually access all of my collection, which is why there’s no mention of my US Twilight ARC or movie posters – they’re buried in my room, being safely watched over by my 6-foot RPattz standee (hehe). Anyway, here are 5 of my favourite pieces of memorabilia – some promo, some official.
Thanks for letting me ramble on about this, Lori. Yay for Twilight Takeover! 🙂
1. Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer – promotional chapter sampler.
When The Host was released in April 2008, UK Borders stores got a small amount of these Midnight Sun samplers to give away to customers who bought The Host. Although it’s just a little bound book containing chapter one of Midnight Sun, it’s one of my most prized possessions. I don’t think I need to explain why; if you’re a Twilight fan, you’ll get it. These were produced for promotional use only, and are still highly sought after.
2. Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer – signed UK edition.
I have 9 books signed by Stephenie, none of which I’ve ever gotten myself (fingers crossed I will meet her one day!). This UK first edition of Eclipse is the first one I ever got, which is why it’s my favourite. I bought it from an eBay seller in late 2007, after Stephenie did a small event at a Waterstones store in London. It still has the store ‘Signed by the Author’ sticker on it, and only cost me £25. Soon after that, the books got hugely popular over here, and I finally had people to talk to about them. Yay! After this, my favourite signed books are the US Twilight (thanks to a very nice eBay seller for getting this signed for me) and a US copy of The Host, which was signed at an event Stephenie did at the Changing Hands bookstore in Tempe, AZ.
3. The Twilight Saga promotional bag.
This bag isn’t anything amazing, I just love it. Again it was for promotional purposes, and was produced by Little, Brown US to mark the release of Breaking Dawn in August 2008. A small number were available at San Diego Comic Con that year, though I’m not sure how many. It has the red and black saga colours, and is just really cool. It currently lives in its protective plastic bag, and has never been used.
4. New Moon movie promotional goodie bag.
This is a promotional New Moon movie pack from 2009’s Sitges Film Festival in Spain. My best friend (who’s not really a Twilight fan) went to the festival, queued for ages to get a ticket to the New Moon panel, and got me this along with a piece of paper signed to me by Jamie Campbell Bower, who plays Caius. The drawstring bag contains a t-shirt, pin and wristband, all of which say La Saga Crepusculo: Luna Nueva. I love this because it’s unusual, and I really like collecting promotional items that aren’t readily available to buy. Also, my best friend got it for me, so it’s awesome just for that reason.
5. Twilight: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack 12″ Gatefold Vinyl
Last up is the special edition vinyl Twilight soundtrack. This soundtrack is my favourite of the three so far, and the whole package is really cool. It opens to a picture of the Cullens, and includes the double sided 12″ and 3 posters (Edward, Bella and James). I’ve never played it (no record player) and it’s pretty hard to store (it’s huge!), but I had to have it. I guess you could say I’m obsessed 😉
Now we are all green with envy! Thanks for sharing this with us, Jenny. Don’t forget to go visit her at Wondrous Reads!
