In almost all the interviews I have read with Stephenie Meyer since Breaking Dawn’s release, she has came off as a little sad. I, of course don’t know her, but I get the impression that the haters get to her. So I wanted to take the time and write her a little message. It might not ever make it to her, but I at least want to try.
Dear Stephenie,
I have been a fan of yours for, 4 years now, and I just wanted to make sure you know we are still out there. Is that silly of me? Because of course, you know we are still out here. How could you not, with all the screaming, but underneath all that there are many fans of YOU. Not Rob, not Taylor, not Kellen etc. We do of course, love them, but there’s a good chance that we wouldn’t even know who they are without you. It comes back to the books. Always. Many people might take those four books for granted these days. For every hater out there, I bet there is 500 people that love Bella, Edward, and Jacob. That love your words, the story that came from your head! So, please ignore the haters and bashers.
They may try to bring you down. To say that you are no literary great. But really, who cares? When I open a book I want an escape. I don’t what to have to rack my brain to understand the story. I want to have fun. I want to be so engrossed in a story that I forget real life for a while. That is exactly what your books are. So, what does it matter if your writing isn’t like Jane Austin’s or J.K. Rowling’s? Why is it necessary for everyone to make comparisons? Your books are yours. An incredible amount of non-readers have been turned into readers by Twilight. That’s amazing! That feat alone should have everyone rejoicing. So please remember, the haters might come through loud and clear, but there are thousands of us fans quietly in awe of the phenomenon you have created.
Oh, and please ignore our demands. We want Midnight Sun, we want Jacob and Nessie’s story, we want a sequel to The Host, we want MORE! But, really can you blame us? I’m sure it’s very stressful to hear these comments and know that you can’t make us all happy. It’s your own fault, though. If you wouldn’t have created characters and stories that were this good then we would be happy to wait. If I may speak on behalf of some Twilight fans right now, I say write what makes you happy! I’m sure it will be fantastic and we will love it!
Sincerely,
Lori

YES. Amen to everything. Every single time I see a hateful, sarcastic tweet/blog post meant to dig at Twilight or Stephenie Meyer, whether it be for the movies or for the books, I want to write a letter like this to her. Because people like that probably make her feel like crap when she has NO reason to. She's one of the most successful authors. Like you said, people are actually picking up other books because of her. No, she's NOT a literary genius, but look at where she is today. She created a world and characters that I absolutely fell in love with. And it's the same for others.
So yeah, if you're reading this and you're one of those people who CONSTANTLY feels the need to trash it, listen up: you don't like the books or movies? That's on you. But we DO like them, so STFU and let it be.
I kind of love you right now, because I just did the very same thing and wrote a little love letter on my blog. YAY!!! I am sure SM knows how truly amazing her fans really are including you, you are brill!
Bravo what a wonderful post…your right Stephanie did this to herself, she creates interesting, intoxicating, characters that we, as fans cant seem to get enough of. She's not J.K. Rowlings…she's Stephanie Meyer and she's amazing, she's bought so much joy to soo many people…
Wonderful WONDERFUL letter.
Well said, Lori. Any book that can inspire millions (and yes, I mean millions) of non-readers to pick up a book and discover their love for reading is worthy of our appreciation.
this is such a lovely post. I think it's great. I know if I was her, but I'd be sad too. it must be hard to hear things…you give more weight to the bad than the good it seems. It's awful, but it happens.
Great post! I think she should also know that there are many of us out here who LOVED Breaking Dawn! I know there are a lot of fans of the series who, for whatever reason, didn't like Breaking Dawn at all. It was my favorite of the series, so she should know not everyone thought it was a failure!
Everyone will have a hater or two, it's impossible not to. James Patterson is also one of the most successful authors, and there are many people out there who think his writing style is horrible. Their success should serve as a reminder that not everyone feels that way.
Once again, great letter!
I agree with that!!!!
Aww this is so sweet! Preach it, sister! I hope Stephenie sees this and remembers what life was like before. Before the madness. Before the haters. Before the screaming. It's all about the books for me. I could honestly care less about the movies. I worship Stephenie, not the superstar actors she created jobs for. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next. She's got a gift for storytelling, and like you said, people need to stop trying to make comparisons. Did people compare Harry Potter to Lord of the Rings? (I don't know…did they? I don't remember it if they did.) They're different stories and different people will enjoy or hate them. Just let people alone to be happy with what makes them happy.
Greatest post ever. Thank you!
There's so many people who have begun reading again thanks to her – I hope that Stephanie Meyer doesn't let all the crappy comments get her down, because she really has managed to do something amazing, even if her writing may not be deemed Jane Austen or J.K. Rowling (and, really, who cares – I couldn't put her freaking books down – in fact, I had to read them over and over and over – I don't have any problem with her writing
).
She has bazillions of fans, lol … she's definitely doing something right
Well said, my friend! She is my hero!
Thank you!
That needed to be said.

You are totally right! Fans of Stephanie must unite!
Thanks for all the comments everyone! They really made my day!!
I never really understood the position a great writer like, for example, Stephen King, took towards Stephenie Meyers. All I can now remember is when the Twilight phenomenon started a lot of good writers said a lot of crap about it…Why? Well, human nature is hard to understand, that's true…I love equally Stephenie Meyers, JK Rowlings, Tolkien and many others. They enrich my life and make the burden easier to carry…
And to say that Mrs. Meyers doesn't write literary…I have an MA in English Language and literature (although English is not my mother tongue) and I enjoy very much Mrs. Meyers style. It is rich and flows and mesmerizes.
I loved the movies also…
I think I have to add that I am a grown up woman with a grown up kid (and a younger daughter) and I am a sucker for a good book, a nice love story and an entertaining movie…so sue me!
Well done on your post!

Great letter! One thing that really stands out to me and that I always think of, is that Stephenie created millions of new readers. People that did not enjoy reading at all until they read Twilight. Now they can't stop reading! So ALL authors out there should LOVE Stephenie because now THEY have more readers!
I do agree that people are far too harsh. People love her stories, so who cares about more then that? If you don't like the writing then read it, it's no excuse to hate on everyone who does!
Great post!
