Did you have any idea that Shiver would be such a big success?
When I sold Lament, I made just enough to buy a mattress with the advance. I thought that was the best thing ever. My goal with Shiver was to be able to buy slightly more than a mattress. I thought that would be amazing. I knew it was more commercial than Lament, so I thought that would be a doable thing. So in other words, no, I had no idea. I nearly died when my agent told me about the first offer for the manuscript. And when I got the phone call saying that Shiver had hit the bestseller list, my hand wouldn’t stop shaking for nearly an hour. It just keeps blowing me away, even now. Rather humbling.
You can paint, draw, make amazing book trailers, play several instruments and of course, write incredible books….what are you NOT good at? 😉
Haha — I can’t make tortillas. I can’t sit still for very long. I can’t wear those big belts that go round your middle because they make me look really short and shapeless. I can’t eat preservatives. See? Lots of things.
If you could have dinner with any 3 authors(dead or alive) who would they be and why?
C.S. Lewis, Diana Wynne Jones, and Lloyd Alexander. Three denizens of my childhood reading. They could just sit around the table and hob nob while I watch.
What was the last incredible book you read?
The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. It pushed all my folklore buttons.
What are you working on now?
I’m revising FOREVER to make it presentable and also working on a super Secret Novel that I can’t tell you anything about except it’s a paranormal YA with blood, beaches, and kissing.
