I don’t even know where to begin. I guess from the very beginning…This past weekend was the Decatur Book Festival in Decatur, GA. I had been planning this trip for roughly a year. I missed it last year and that wasn’t going to happen again! So, Saturday morning I woke up at 4am, very sleepy but very excited. My husband, Beau and I left at 5:30 on our way to Decatur. We only got a little lost on the way and I still made it in time to have breakfast with some awesome people! I left Beau to wonder the streets and went to breakfast at J Christopher’s with other book bloggers and authors!
I didn’t get a lot of great pictures, but I’m going to attempt to list everyone and hope that I don’t leave anyone out. Bloggers were: the very awesome Vania, Kelsey, Christina (who is my new signing buddy), Jeremy & Jeffrey, Travis, and JP. I think that was all the bloggers. There’s a very good chance I am leaving someone out, though. If so, I’m sorry! The authors at breakfast were: Jackson Pearce, Carrie Ryan, Mari Mancusi, Nancy Werlin, Christina Gonzalez, Jennifer Jabaley, Liz Maverick and upcoming author, Michelle Hodkin.
Here are the few pictures I did get:
Breakfast was a lot of fun! It went by in a blur. I sat beside Nancy Werlin, and we discussed Mockingjay for a while. Bookmarks were passed around and Mari gave all the bloggers a signed copy of Boys that Bite. Everyone was super nice and it was really hard to stay cool and not go all fan girly!
After breakfast I found my hubby taking a nap in the car…so we went and checked into our room. Beau was staying in the room to watch football so I got all my books together and headed to the festival. It was amazing! Books everywhere! Most were books that I didn’t want to read but I just like being surrounded by them.
The first panel and signing was David Levithan and Terra McVoy. They were hilarious. It was probably my favorite panel of the whole weekend! I think I even have a small unrealistic crush on David. Their panel was on romance in books and they both did a reading. David read from Will Grayson, Will Grayson and he was fantastic at it (of course!), but you could hear a pin drop in there and by the end I was leaning forward in my seat wanting to know more! I’m dumb, though, and didn’t buy the book! I wanted Love is a Higher Law but the didn’t have it out. I got my copy of Boy Meets Boy signed, though!
After that panel it was time for the Fantasy panel with Saundra Mitchell, Jessica Verday, Cinda Williams Chima, and Kathleen Duey. It was really interesting. I love fantasy and really don’t read enough of it! At the signing I bought Skin Hunger by Kathleen Duey because she seemed amazing! When I went up to get my book signed she asked me if I was about to start something new in my life…I said ‘Uhhh….no?’ She said that her mother was psychic and she picks up on it every now and then. She said she was getting very strong vibes that I was about to start something new and the outcome would be very good! How awesome is she!? I can’t wait to read her book! Cinda Williams was also very nice!
Next up was the Vampires vs Zombies Smackdown with Alyxandra Harvey and Carrie Ryan. We unfortunately missed most of this one because we had been getting our books signed, but what I did see was great! (Sorry the picture sucks)
Next up was the Real Issues in a Unreal World panel with Rachel Hawkins and Nancy Werlin.
After that I was starving so Beau and I met up and had some dinner at Leon’s, which I loved and then I called it a day….a exhausting awesome day!
Here’s are a few pictures that I stole from Christina at Books Are Life (she was my partner in crime throughout the festival):
