Last night I stayed up til ungodly hours (I’m a morning person, not a night person) to watch Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One and I just wanted to share with you a few of my thoughts. I’m going to try to do this without naming any major things…..we’ll see how that goes…
First off, I want to say that I usually pride myself in being one of those book readers that can watch movies and enjoy them for what they are. I know that they can’t make the movie as awesome as the book. It just can’t be done. So, I usually don’t nitpick them and point out all the things they change, but now…I think I’m turning into one of those people! Oh well it happens to the best of us, I guess.
Don’t get me wrong, Deathly Hallows was good, great even, but I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I had not read the book earlier in the week. That refreshed my mind. It made me pick out all the details that they left out. But that was a lot of information to cram into one movie.
Overall, though I must say that it was great. I think I still liked Half-Blood Prince better, but that was my favorite book also. Here are some of the things I loved: The Seven Potters was fantastic! They upped the romantic tension between Hermione and Ron and it worked perfectly. Hedwig and Dobby saved the day. Harry kicked ass (I cannot wait to see him kick even more ass in Part Two!).
I think that Part Two is going to be even more fantastic (and sad!) and maybe I shouldn’t read the book right before hand?
What did you think of the movie?!
Here are some spoilery things, though not if you have read the book, and some complainy things. Highlight to read:
Harry and Hermione were naked in the images that came out of the locket! Naked! They left out all the near misses with Voldemort that made the tension so high in the book. Harry’s frickin’ invisibility cloak isn’t used ONCE! What the crap!? It plays such a huge role in the books and they never even mention it. They don’t even say that its a Hallow! That’s another thing, in the book the choice between getting the Elder Wand and finding Horcruxes is such a huge deal. Its a very big choice for Harry, Hallows or Horcruxes. They completely left out the choice and all the internal struggle. Never even mentioned it. Harry didn’t obsess over the Hallows at all! Did I say that Harry and Hermione were naked?! Did I?! Oh yeah, I didn’t like that Wormtail didn’t die! I’ll stop now….
