With her rare ability to breathe fire, Jacinda is special even among the draki—the descendants of dragons who can shift between human and dragon forms. But when Jacinda’s rebelliousness leads her family to flee into the human world, she struggles to adapt, even as her draki spirit fades. The one thing that revives it is Will, whose family hunts her kind. Jacinda can’t resist getting closer to him, even though she knows she’s risking not only her life but the draki’s most closely guarded secret.
Who doesn’t love dragons? Seriously, have you ever met someone who does like them? I haven’t! So, why isn’t there more books about them!? Thank goodness for Sophie Jordan because not only did she write a book about dragons, but she wrote a awesome book about dragons!
Jacinda is special in her pride. She is the only draki with the ability to breathe fire. When Jacinda has a run in with draki hunters, her mother chooses to move them away. Now it’s a normal high school life for Jacinda. Her draki will die in these conditions, in less she can find something to keep it alive. Something like Will.
The premise of Firelight by Sophie Jordan is outstandingly original. The history and detail that Jordan put into draki lore is amazing! I do wish that Jacinda could have let her draki out more, but I understand why she couldn’t. The characters were all very well done. Jacinda was likable and Will was hot and mysterious. I really disliked Jacinda’s mom, though. I know she was just trying to protect her daughters, but she was just mean!
Sophie Jordan has written adult romance before, and it shows. The whole book had a adult paranormal romance feel to it. Not to say it had adult content, it didn’t, but the writing was more reminiscent of something you would find in the romance section. That’s not a bad thing. I think teens will love it.
All in all, Firelight by Sophie Jordan was a fantastic start to a series! I’m hooked. I need the sequel asap!
