It’s been three years since the devastating accident … three years since Mia walked out of Adam’s life forever. Now living on opposite coasts, Mia is Julliard’s rising star and Adam is LA tabloid fodder, thanks to his new rock star status and celebrity girlfriend. When Adam gets stuck in New York by himself, chance brings the couple together again, for one last night. As they explore the city that has become Mia’s home, Adam and Mia revisit the past and open their hearts to the future – and each other.
Told from Adam’s point of view in the spare, lyrical prose that defined If I Stay, Where She Went explores the devastation of grief, the promise of new hope, and the flame of rekindled romance.
Where She Went is one of my most anticipated books of the year and I am very happy to say that it did not disappoint. I was a little sad to see that this book takes place 3 years after If I Stay and that Adam and Mia were no longer together. I know that it was close to impossible for Mia to have a completely Happily Ever After at the end of If I Stay, but I was still hoping for it. And I thought Adam was the best chance Mia had at healing. I was wrong.
Gayle Forman once again handled this tragic and unfathomable situation realistically. Mia was so damaged by the events in If I Stay and everyone deals with those things in different ways. The way that Mia ultimately dealt with her pain and anger was completely believable.
Where She Went book is told from Adam’s point of view. I loved Adam from the first time he was introduced in the other book so I was excited to get things from his perspective. I was a little shocked at what I found. He was angry, very angry and a little broken. He leads what everyone thinks is this perfect rock star life, but in reality he hates it. He was gritty and emotional and fantastically written!
If you have read If I Stay, the writing is just as good! If not better. Its told in the same sparse style as the first book and it will suck you in before you know it. There are also some of Adam’s song lyrics at the beginning of every other chapter, these were incredible. If Shooting Star were a real band I would definitely buy their album!
Really, these are just two extraordinary books and you should definitely read both of them…soon!
