To kick off Book Blogger Appreciation week we were asked to talk about community:
Today you are encouraged to highlight a couple of bloggers that have made book blogging a unique experience for you. They can be your mentors, a blogger that encouraged you to try a different kind of book, opened your eyes to a new issue, made you laugh when you needed it, or left the first comment you ever got on your blog.
If you have paid even the slightest bit of attention to my blog you will probably know who the first two people that come to mind when faced with the task above are…yes of course they are Angela and Candace. We have been online friends since…2007, I think. We started talking on Shelfari probably over our shared love of vampires and paranormal romance. Then we started blogging around the same time. I feel like we have almost always been in this together and I don’t know if I could have kept it up without those two to gush about books with, ask advice, and rant to. I talk to them more than any of my friends that actually live in the same state as me. And it’s all been because of books and blogging. I love you two!
I also wanted to remark on how amazingly kind this community is. Sometimes it seems that you only hear about the drama and negative things. But here is a little piece of a short post I did in April after some bloggers amazed me:
So I hit the deer, there was no way around it. It came out of no where. It died. I was heartbroken. I tweeted about what happened and the concern and understanding that I got back went a long way to cheering me up and taking my mind off of it. I think it’s amazing that people will take 30 seconds, or hours to make someone they don’t know feel better.
I know the book blogging community has its fair share of turmoil, but I think you guys are an inspiration. I think the world could use more people like you. It may be something as little as a tweet, but it could have a huge impact. It did for me.
Y’all really are awesome…
