Amber’s life is spinning out of control. All she wants is to turn up the volume on her iPod until all of the demands of family and friends fade away. So she sneaks off to the beach to spend a day by herself.
Then Amber meets Cade. Their attraction is instant, and Amber can tell he’s also looking for an escape. Together they decide to share a perfect day: no pasts, no fears, no regrets.
The more time that Amber spends with Cade, the more she’s drawn to him. And the more she’s troubled by his darkness. Because Cade’s not just living in the now—he’s living each moment like it’s his last.
Lisa Schroeder’s writing never ceases to amaze me. At first glance it’s hard to believe that you can become so engaged with a story told in verse. I used to think ‘how can I feel any connection to a character if their story is in verse?’ that was before I read any of Lisa’s books. They will make you believe in the beauty of verse.
The Day Before was no exception. It was gorgeous. I went into not really knowing much about it. It had been months since I read the blurb. So the book was full of surprised for me. I loved watching Amber and Cade’s story unfold slowly in Lisa’s beautiful prose. They were fantastic characters and I felt a lot of connection with them. Even though they meet and feel so strongly for each other all in one day, it still felt very realistic. It wasn’t forced at all.
All in all The Day Before was a really great read. It was heartbreaking and heartwarming. If you haven’t read Lisa’s books yet you should change that. Soon.
