This week’s topic is Top Ten Books I picked up based on the cover or title. This was another easy topic for me….I’m a cover whore..So, here they are in no particular order:
1. New Moon by Stephenie Meyer
Yep, you read that right. I read New Moon based on appearance…not Twilight. Because I didn’t know Twilight existed at the time. Here’s how it happened: This was before I was blogging, before I even knew about online book communities like Shelfari and Goodreads. This was back in the day when I actually went into a bookstore and browsed. (The horror!) Anyway, so one cold evening I went into Books a Million determined to buy a book. I saw New Moon on the best sellers shelf (it had just came out) and was instantly drawn to it. That cover was unlike anything! So simple and haunting. I read the blurb and had two thoughts, 1.) OMG THIS IS ABOUT VAMPIRES! (This was a ginormous selling factor back then) and 2.) I wonder if it’s a sequel. So I proceeded to search all over the book and never once saw ‘Book Two in the Twilight Saga’ So I bought it…I realized very, very quickly that it was most definitely a sequel but I was already soooo hooked that I kept reading. I finished it and prompted ran out to buy Twilight, thus introducing me to the YA section of BAM and probably changing my life because I would not be blogging without Twilight..sorry that was so long!
2. Fallen by Lauren Kate
I honestly think everyone picked up this book at some point and time based on that cover. It a gorgeous, gorgeous cover. It’s too bad that the did not live up to it for me….
3. The Maze Runner by James Dashner
I love that cover. I’m not sure if everyone does, but there something about the mysteriousness of that cover and the name that just made me get the book. It worked out well too because the book is the definition of awesomesauce.
4. Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan
I believe this was the first book I ever preordered! I came across the cover on Shelfari (pre blog days) and had to have it. I loved it too.
5. The Dust of 100 Dogs by A.S. King
I think I had heard just a few rumblings about this book, but I really had no idea what it was about when I saw it in the book store. The awesome cover is that main reason I picked it up. I didn’t know that A.S. King would swiftly become one of my favorite authors.
6. The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen
I discovered this book sometime shortly after reading Twilight and New Moon. I was very new to the YA genre but this cover called to me. I read it and fell in love.
7. Marked by P.C. and Kristin Cast
Ugh..I blame picking up this book on my post Twilight haze. It has a great cover, I’ll give it that. And it was about vampires so I bought it…and liked it. But that only lasted so long, through about 4 books to be exact. But they do have nice covers.
8. Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
This is a given…everyone loves this cover.
9. A Certain Slant of Light by Laura Whitcomb
One of the best cover and title combinations ever. It’s eerie and haunting. It begs to be picked up. The story is fantastic too!
10. Wither by Lauren DeStefano
This book could have been about…old men playing checkers and I would have read it anyway. As long as it had that cover.
