Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl. . . .

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

To be honest when I first read the summary of this book I thought ‘Cyborgs? Androids? Moon people? Cinderella?! Wha…?’ I think I read lots of genres, but science-fiction isn’t one that I have too much experience with. I probably would have passed on this book–which would have been a real shame–if not for the trickle of glowing early reviews. Plus, I am a sucker for that cover. I love it. So, I read it. I wasn’t even finished with the first chapter before was I thinking ‘Cyborgs! Androids! Moon people!!’ and many other things that ended with exclamation points. This book is one of the most creative things I have read in a long time.

It didn’t take much time to get into the futuristic world that Meyer created. Sometimes the first half of a book with a fantasy world is slow because there is so much info and back story involved. I didn’t think Cinder was slow at all. The pacing was perfect. I did read it at a slower pace, but that was because I wanted to savor it.

Cinder may have some metal limbs and internal wiring, but she was just a normal girl. She didn’t fit in. She wasn’t loved like she should have been, but she was strong and confident. She was very easy to relate to. I found all the characters to be enjoyable and very well written.

There is lots of mystery in the story. Cinder doesn’t know exactly who she is or where she came. I guessed the outcome to that pretty early on, but that didn’t take anything away from the story for me. There were still a few surprises along the way.

My most favorite part of course was the world in which Cinder lives. It was a scary place to be, what with imminent war and plagues, but I found it utterly fascinating. I can’t wait to find out even more history.

Overall, I really, really loved this book. I think that it is a must read. I don’t want to hear any of that ‘I don’t like sci-fi.’ stuff, because I think this one is for everyone. You don’t want to miss it!

The One with My Top Ten Books I Want to Read This Winter

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the awesome people at The Broke and the Bookish

This week’s topic is: Top Ten books on my winter to read list. This is by far the easiest top ten I’ve done yet! The hardest part was picking just ten. Most of these I already have, so I should be reading & reviewing them soon. Here are my choices.

1. Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver
This book might finish me off. Delirium nearly killed me and I loved every second of it, so I can’t wait to read this one. I should be getting it soon (squee!) and I’m going to start it right away.

2. Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood
I love books about witches! They are probably my favorite flavor of paranormal. This one is waiting for me on my shelf and I can’t wait to dive in.

3. The Miseducation of Cameron Post by Emily M. Danforth
This book sounds amazing! I’m going to read it soon.

4. The Disenchamnets by Nina LaCour
Everything, everything about this books makes me think I will love it!

5. Dead to You by Lisa McMann
I LOVE Lisa McMann. I love everything she does. This book is definitely on my most anticipated list.

6. Incarnate by Jodi Meadows
I’ve heard such good things. I’m so anxious to read it.

7. Harbinger by Sarah Wilson Etienne
That cover and the mysterious/creepy brochure that came with the book! I can’t wait to find out what it’s all about!

8. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
OMG it’s John Green! That is all.
9. Kiss Crush Collide by Christina Meredith
It has the phrase ‘steamy forbidden romance’ in the blurb. I must read it.

10. A Beautiful Evil by Kelly Keaton
I loved, loved, loved Darkness Becomes Her, so I am very anxious for the sequel!

Also on the list, Eon, Want to Go Private, Dreamland Social Club, Where It Began, Wanderlove, and  many, many others. :)

The One with the Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight

Who would have guessed that four minutes could change everything?

Today should be one of the worst days of seventeen-year-old Hadley Sullivan’s life. She’s stuck at JFK, late to her father’s second wedding, which is taking place in London and involves a soon to be step-mother that Hadley’s never even met. Then she meets the perfect boy in the airport’s cramped waiting area. His name is Oliver, he’s British, and he’s in seat 18B. Hadley’s in 18A.

Twists of fate and quirks of timing play out in this thoughtful novel about family connections, second chances and first loves. Set over a 24-hour-period, Hadley and Oliver’s story will make you believe that true love finds you when you’re least expecting it.

I saw the gorgeous cover. I read the glowing early reviews. I had to read this book. Everything about it screamed ‘Read me! You will love me!’ and I did love it. It was impossible to put down. I devoured it in a matter of hours.

Hadley and Oliver were really well done characters. Hadley is in a bad place what with her dad getting remarried. So when her and Oliver meet by chance in the airport it’s not just about a crush or making googly eyes at each other. Their story is more complex than that. They were both super likable and so good together. I really liked that the author didn’t put all the huge emotional obstacles between them. They had their fair share of personal problems, but they liked each and that was clear from the beginning.

I really recommend this book. It was a fun. fast read, but there was also a lot of heart in it. The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight isn’t just a love story. It’s also about family and forgiveness. Don’t miss out on this one!
