Blogger Tips & Tricks!

Hi everyone! I hope y’all had a fantastic New Year! With the new year comes a new list of books read, right? That’s what I’m going to talk about today! How do you keep up with the books you have read? Here are the things that work for me and feel free to try them out.

My number 1 way to keep up with books is my little Books Read in 2012 scrolly gadget at the bottom of my blog. I update it every time I finish a book. I have a nice routine, I upload the new book to my Currently Reading gadget, I add the book title to my Books Read List, and then I make a draft of what will become my review. That way I always remember to do it. If you would like to get your own cute scrolly gadget here is a tutorial for it.

I also have a really old post that I update once a year with my entire list of books I read. It goes all the way back to 2008! It’s really only for my reference, but it comes in handy.

I’m sure lots of you use Goodreads to keep track, right? It is very useful. The only reason that I don’t rely on it more is that sometimes I come across a book I read 6 years ago and add it to my Read shelf. Then it counts it in my read that year list…and it shouldn’t count. But I do like the Yearly Reading Challenge thing. (I also like that you can drop your goal down at any time lol)

So those are my favorite ways. How do you keep up with it?

Let me know if there are tips and tricks you want me to discuss!

If you mark a book as 'read' when you've read it years ago, you can assign a 'read' date – even if it's only the year in which you've read it. If you do that, it will apear in the year you've actually read it instead of the year you mark it as read!

I mainly use Goodreads, but I also have a review index on my blog on which I also list the books I've read per month. And this year I'm keeping a spreadsheet, so I can do some stats and pie charts at the end of the year :)

    @Loving Books,

I mostly deal with Goodreads on my phone. So I'm too lazy/it's too complicated to add dates read that way.

    I love a good pie chart! :)

  3. Amy says:

I use the goodreads challenge to keep track for the year. I also have a good old fashioned notebook that I use too. Every time I finish a book I write it down with the date I finished. I have a review archive, but it's not dated.

  4. Jess (The Cozy Reader) says:

I rely on Goodreads. Just like Loving Books said, I change the "read date" to reflect a true date if I read it in the past.

  5. Nikki says:

I have a journal that I keep track of all the books I read. I recently transferred all the entries from a small one to a bigger one. I started this in 2002, and it's become a total OCD thing now.

I use Goodreads. It's so easy and I love the scanning feature. It makes it super fast. If its something I read in a previous year I just change the date! I use it on my phone too! If I need to change the date of a book, I just use goodreads on my cell's web instead of the app. Easy as pie! ;)

I've thought about adding the scroll thingy but I have so much on my sidebar I just haven't. I mostly keep track on goodreads I guess. It's easiest since I have it on my phone. I wish I had more time, I would like to have a review index.

  9. Paige says:

I use Goodreads because i'm basically on there everyday, to make that not happen though like others have said you just change the date read and it takes it out of your challenge =)

  10. Sarah says:

I totally love Goodreads. I also have a page on my blog where I link all my review posts, in book title alphabetical order. It makes it so easy to look up an old review.

  11. Minda says:

I use mainly Goodreads. I use Evernote to keep up with what books I get per month. I usually write up reviews in Evernote when I read a book that I want to say a lot about. So the books that really stand out can usually be found in a specific Evernote Notebook. I tried keeping up by spreadsheet and it was too much of a hassle to turn on my computer, type in the book info, then turn off the computer, put it away. I'm lazy, the Goodreads app also let's me update my reading status which I like.
