That title says it all. I almost killed all the fun of blogging and I didn’t even realize it. Are you wondering how? This is what I can figure out.
I love Twitter. LOVE IT. But once I got my iPhone Twitter took the place of a lot of blogging interactions. Mostly commenting. Instead of scrolling through my reader and finding something interesting I started scrolling through my timeline and finding something interesting. Twitter does make bookish discussions and interaction with other readers easier, but I let it take the focus off of blogging. I stopping using my Reader. I stopped doing a lot of blog commenting.
I really didn’t even realize that it was happening until maybe a month ago when for the first time in forever I clicked All Items in Reader and scrolled through. It was…fun to see what people were talking about in more than 140 characters.
Now I am taking steps to put a lot of the fun back into blogging. I am trying to go through my reader every other day. I’m definitely not commenting on everything, that would take hours, but I am commenting a lot more. I’m also commenting on lots of TTT posts every week. It’s the only meme besides In My Mailbox that I do every week and I get lots of enjoyment out commenting on everyone’s lists.
Another thing that usually hinders my commenting strategy is finding really interesting posts on Twitter while using my phone. I hate commenting via my phone, so a lot of times those posts would be forgotten about by the next time I was online. Now I am using my handy little Reminders app to keep track of the posts I want to go comment on.
What steps do you take to keep blogging fun?
