We can’t all love everything and some books just aren’t for me. Sometimes I try really hard to love a book but if it’s taking me 4 days to read 100 pages, we need to have the talk. I debated quite a while on whether or not to do this feature, but I thought it would be fun, so Book Breakups was born.
It breaks my heart to say this, but I just didn’t like this book. The reason that it breaks my heart is because I adore David Levithan. He is one of my favorite authors. I really enjoy him and Rachel Cohn together. I loved Nick & Nora and Dash & Lily was also great. But this one….I just couldn’t get into it. The main characters are completely unlikeable. I don’t know if I’ve ever read two characters that were more self absorbed. The book is told from more than just Naomi and Ely’s perspectives and I did enjoy the other narratives, just not enough to keep me reading. This won’t stop me from reading anything that David and Rachel write in the future though! Here are some people that loved the book:
This is a series breakup, because I did actually read both of these books from start to finish. I didn’t love Wither, but I gave Fever a chance and it didn’t me over either. You can see more about that in my Fever review. I decided that I’m not going to bother reading book 3. I really wanted to like this series. It’s a fantastic concept and I really like Lauren but they just don’t do it for me. Don’t take my word for it. It is a wildly popular series:
