Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the awesome people at The Broke and the Bookish
This week’s topic is: Top Ten Books That Were Totally Deceiving (those covers or titles that don’t fit the books, a book that was totally different than its summary, or those books you thought were going to be fluff that turned out to be more serious etc etc.)
1. Kiss Crush Collide Christina Meredith
This book was compared to Perfect Chemistry in the description. It sounded like a romance. It’s not. It’s very much about family turmoil with a little bit of underwhelming romance. I think I would have enjoyed the book much more if the summary wouldn’t have been deceiving.
2. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
I put off reading these books for a really long time. Based on the title and the original cover I thought they were just another fluffy vampire story like House of Night. Boy, was I wrong.
3. Liar by Justine Larbalestier
I think that it’s impossible to not be deceived by this book and I mean that in the best way possible. This book is completely incredible. Unless you’ve seen a spoiler there’s no way that you will know what is going on. It’s awesome!
4. Imaginary Girls by Nova Ren Suma
I had no idea going into this that it was magical realism. It was a very pleasant surprise for me because I love magical realism.
5. Unearthly by Cynthia Hand
I thought this was just one of those fluff angel books. I don’t like angel books. I’m still very thankful that I gave this a shot.
6. The Difference Between You and Me by Madelaine George
I thought that this book was going to focus on the relationship a lot more, but it’s really more about growing up and coming into your own. It’s very good.
7. Ten Things We Did (and Probably Shouldn’t Have) by Sarah Mlynowski
I thought this was going to be a little on the fluffy side, but it was so much more!
8. The Water Wars by Cameron Stracher
I loved this cover and the description sounded so good, but the book was nothing like the cover or the description. It was very disappointing.
9. Supergirl Mixtapes by Megan Brothers
I knew that this wasn’t a fluff book, but I had no idea that it was going to deal with such heavy issues.
10. Darkness Becomes Her by Kelly Keaton
Based on the original cover I though this book was going to be just another paranormal book, but it completely knocked my socks off. I wasn’t expecting it to be so awesome at all.
