11/21/16 update: Hi all! It seems a lot of people land on this post from Google. If that’s you, please know that this is a silly, snarky post. It is not 100% real advice. My honest and best advice for not falling asleep while reading is #4 on this list. If you’re looking for medical advice please talk to a professional.
I’ve been hearing this statement from people a lot lately: “I don’t read because I always fall asleep as soon as I start!”. This has to be the silliest thing I’ve ever heard. This is such an easy thing to combat so I thought I would share some of my reading wisdom with these poor, poor souls. Here are my sure fire tricks for staying awake:
Nothing makes you sleepier faster than a cat curling up on your lap for a nice nap. Before you know it the both of you will be napping.
This isn’t rocket science, you guys.
I honestly think this is most people’s problem. A girl at work told me that she didn’t read because she falls asleep then she proceeded to tell me the book she was trying to read was Snooki’s. I nicely told her that that sleeping was her brains way of saving itself from turning into a pile of mush. Read good things. Read captivating and gripping things.
Here’s a secret: I fall asleep while reading all the time. Shhh… Usually it’s Picadilly’s fault. I’m the master of the ten minute nap though! So, yeah, falling asleep happens. But my goodness! Don’t let it stop you from reading. Persevere! You can beat this.
