My Top Ten Favorite Contemporary Authors

TTTimage

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the awesome people at The Broke and the Bookish

This week’s topic is: Top Ten Favorite Authors In X Genre (Ex- Top Ten Favorite Science Fiction Authors, Top Ten Fave Contemporary YA authors)

I’m picking contemporary authors!

tttcontemp1

Melina Marchetta
Melina is just amazing at whatever she does, but her contemps are incredible. Books: Jellicoe Road, Saving Francesca.

Megan McCafferty
Jessica Darling!! How can anyone not love Jessica?

A.S. King
She is one of my top favorite authors period. If you’re looking for a contemporary read that’s very…unique you should definitely pick up Please Ignore Vera Dietz. It’s one of my favorite books ever!

Stephanie Perkins
Is there anyone out there that doesn’t love Anna and Lola?

David Levithan
I think I have professed my love of his books enough, right? I especially love Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist.

tttcontemp2

Lelia Sales
Mostly Good Girls and Past Perfect and two of the funniest, most intelligent, and just plain good books I’ve read since I started blogging.

Lauren Oliver
I know she’s only written one contemporary…and you could argue that Before I Fall isn’t even a contemp, but it’s amazing, so I’m putting her on this list.

Jennifer Echols
I read Going Too Far when I was first getting into realistic fiction and it set the bar high.

Sarah Ockler
I could read books like Twenty Boy Summer and Bittersweet over and over and over.

John Green
The Fault in Our Stars <—- Enough said.

How can it be that I only read one book from David Levithan? But now I am hooked and I have to catch up with his books! Oh I really have to check one of the other authors…

Lori, I knew 2 things when I saw this post: 1. I’d find a list of contemp YA authors and 2. that I would love most of them, too! There are a few authors on this list I need to try 🙂

Yay, I chose contemporary, too! And some of our author picks match 🙂 Which is why I think you might like Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry – or have you tried a Sarah Dessen book? The Truth About Forever is one of my absolute favorites!
    Have a great day 😀

Such a great list of Contemporary authors! Levithan, Green, Echols, and Perkins are favorites of mine too. I really need to read #1 on your list Melina Marchetta! I’d consider Before I Fall contemporary as well & agree it’s fantastic.

I love your list! So many great authors on there. I thought it was awesome that you included Leila Sales because I don’t think she’d be on many lists just because she’s so over looked (IMO). I think her books are hilarious and I’m very happy you mentioned her. 🙂

Great list! I did YA Contemporary too. Mostly because it’s not my favorite genre, so it has to be something REALLY special to make me love it. We share a few faves, for sure! Did you ever get a chance to read Every Day?

Being that contemporary is not something I have been reading for very long, I haven’t read a lot of those. I love Lauren Oliver though, and I have the entire Jessica Darling series, but haven’t read it yet. I definitely have to read some of those other books/authors. Thanks for the fab list!!

Ack! I can’t help but feel embarrassed that I haven’t read anything by John Green. Anyway, I totally agree with you on Jennifer Echols’ book. Realistic fiction albeit YA is really not my thing, but she makes me eagerly look forward to the books she writes.

Also, I can’t forget the feelings I had while reading Before I Fall. *sniff* That was one emotional ride for me.
Such an awesome list, I have to try out the rest of those books you mentioned. Thanks for checking out my top ten. 🙂

Welcome to Pure Imagination! I started this blog in 2008 because I desperately needed somewhere to talk about books with people that love them as much as I do. Since then I've become a Mom to two incredible, rambunctious little boys, Finn and Rowan. They keep me busy, but I do try to squeeze in reading and blogging when I can. Take a look around the blog! I hope you find some new books to love.

Pure Imagination

Hi There!

I'm Lori! I've been gushing about books here on Pure Imagination since 2008. I've been married for almost 10 years to a wonderful guy who puts up with my book hoarding. We have two incredible little boys, Finn and Rowan. We also have 6 cat roommates. They're in charge! If I'm not chasing 2 rambunctious boys, changing a diaper, or cleaning up endless piles of Hot Wheels, then I might be reading...or taking a nap.
