Pretty much all I did from the ages of 11 to 17 was watch horror movies. Okay, it wasn’t all I did, but I certainly watched a lot. My parents always refused to get cable TV (they still don’t have it) and there’s only so much you can watch on the basic channels. So the horror section of the video store was a regular haunt for me. I’m a huge fan of 80’s slasher movies. The corniness doesn’t bother be. Usually the awesome overshadows it. Here’s just a few of my favorites. If you haven’t watched them, now is the perfect time.
I’m going to be posting a book to movie adaptations list as well, but I never read this book so it’s going on this list. This movie probably freaked me out more than any movie ever. I think the reason for that was because when I first watched it I was the same age a Reagan. It was so easy to put myself in her shoes. She was just a normal girl until that bed started shaking in its own. I watched it with a friend the first time and we were so scared that we put the VHS in the hallway because we didn’t want it in the room with us while we slept. It’s classic.
(the original and the new one)
The 1974 version of this movie is one of the most horrifying movies ever, in my opinion. It feels so real, which is something that most slasher movies can’t accomplish. Plus, it was just really messed up. When the MC wakes up tied to that chair…The 03′ version is probably the best horror movie remake out there. It’s completely different, but oh so scary!
You can’t go wrong with Jason Voorhees (and his mom). This is the epitome of 80’s slasher too. Have sex and DIE, and of course the MC falls every two feet while running away from the killer. I think her clothes get ripped up too. It’s a must see.
Oh the 90’s. They were awesome. Scream was awesome! A killer obsessed with horror movies! A girl who dies via garage door! Courteney Cox! Neve Campbell! It was genius.
My favorite. Michael Myers is the best horror villain ever. There’s also Jamie Lee Curtis! Oh and it’s so awesomely 70’s. Man, I love this movie.
A few more awesome ones:
The Amityville Horror (the original! The only reason to watch the newer one is to see Ryan Reynolds cock that gun while shirtless in the rain….Yum.)
A Nightmare on Elm Street
The Sixth Sense
I could go on and on, but I won’t. YOU tell me what your favorites are! I’ll also have a book to movie adaptation list up in a couple of days. Stop back by for that.
