Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the awesome people at The Broke and the Bookish
This week’s topic is: Top Ten “Older” Books You Don’t Want People To Forget About (you can define older however you wish. Basically just backlisted books you think are great. Basically the point is to share books that could be forgotten about in the midst of all the new releases)
I’m not going back too far. Maybe just the last 5 or 6 years.
I know a lot of people don’t like issues books but I kind of love them, and Hate List is an incredible one.
I loved, loved, loved this book. It’s heartbreaking and beautiful. I hope people keep on reading it.
I can’t sing this books praises enough. It AWESOME. Read it.
Other Words for Love by Lorraine Zago Rosenthal
This book was just soooo good and I don’t heard people talking about it anymore.
I Now Pronounce you Someone Else by Erin McCahn
This is another one that I try to bring up as much as possible because it was such a fun read, but it also had some serious undertones.
Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta
It’s just amazing and I hope readers keep discovering it.
Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta
Same goes for this one!
Ballads of Suburbia by Stephanie Kuehnert
This is one of my favorite YA realistic fiction reads. It’s one of those books I wish I would have had around as a teen.
You cannot deny the awesomeness that is this series. I hope lots of new readers are still picking it up.
Same goes for this one. I LOVED this series and I was pretty blown away by it when I first read it.

Oooo UGLIES! Good choice! I loved the first two books, but the last one made me so mad I couldn’t finish it. (When you know who dies. Unacceptable!)

Apart from Wake I haven’t read any of the books on your list! I love the WAKE series – it was fantastic. I have to check some of the other books on your list!

i always get a little bit dewy in the eye area whenever i see people talking about saving francesca or jellicoe road and it feels weird to see them on a list for older books (i mean i know they are, heck, saving francesca was published nearly 10 years ago) because they transcend time; they’re timeless. and that’s why i hope people see them on more lists, because they’re books that don’t deserve to be forgotten.

AHhh I haven’t read SIX of these! Gotta get on it. LOVED seeing Wake on your list — that series doesn’t get enough recognition!
I think I need to read Hold Still. I loved The Disenchantments, and Hold Still has been showing up on a lot of lists. Great TTT!

I really enjoyed Jellicoe Road although it took me the longest damn time to figure out what was going on. Perhaps it will benefit from a re-read.
Also good older books – anything by Tamora Pierce but most especially her Lioness Rampant series!

I have so many of these books on your list on my shelf — Ballads of Suburbia, Hate List, Hold Still, & Jellicoe Road. LIAR…hmmm. I believe my exact quote in my review was “I don’t know if I effing hated this book or thought it was genius”…I had such polarizing reactions to it. lol
Great list, lady! <3

Love that MM is worthy of not just one but two spots on this list! And Liar has been in my TBR pile for so long, I must get to it – thanks for the reminder

Uglies was unfortunately not one of my favorite books, but it is something I would want my kids to read one day for the morals behind it. I’ve now added Hate List and Hold Still to my TBR/wish list though… they look so good!

I have been wanting to read Hate List. I just recently finished the audiobook of Wake (I would recommend just reading it for those of you who haven’t. The audio is odd.) That’s a great list. I will have to put those on my huge TBR list.

Saving Francesca is the only book on your list that I have actually read. Obviously I have some reading to do.
The Hate List and Hold Still made my list too this week
I’ve been wanting to read I Now Pronounce You Someone Else… and I must admit Liar confused me a little (or a lot LOL).

I think every one of Melina Marchetta’s books should never be forgotten! They are beautiful! I have heard great things about The Hate List. I should really read it.

I haven’t read a single one of these! Hate List & Uglies are in my tbr pile though. A lot of these books look awesome – I’m going to have to add a few to my TBR lol(the worst part about TTT for me is that my TBR becomes hopeless, haha). Thanks for sharing

Hate List! I should’ve included that. And Jellicoe, I figure ppl are tired of me putting it on every list LOL. I need to read the ones I haven’t too! Gah, I wish I could read faster..
Also, I later thought we should have place Dairy Queen there too since it fairly ‘older’…

Ah! This Top Ten Tuesday is making my TBR list so long, but I love so much of what you have here. I’ve added a bunch and so glad you included “Other Words for Love”. I really really really enjoyed that book and I hope more people give it a try.

Wow, they all sound amazing, and yet I have somehow managed to not read a single one. I’ll have to work on correcting that.
I have never read any of the books on your list! I own Jellicoe Road, and my friend absolutely raves about Melina Marchetta, so I DO want to eventually read her books, but I just haven’t gotten around to it.
Thanks for stopping by my TTT, and sorry for the late response!
