My obsession with vampires started at a early age. I grew up watching movies like Interview With the Vampire and The Lost Boys. I was kind of conditioned to love vampires. They were not ugly Nosferatu creatures. They were Tom Cruise, Kieffer Sutherland, and Brad freakin’ Pitt. My love turned into obsession in late middle school when I discovered that there were vampire books. It was pretty life changing. I devoured Anita Blake, The Silver Kiss, and Salem’s Lot (even though that one is scary vampires). In recent years vampire have become a little…overdone. Are tired of them? I am. But there has been some really unique vampire books released since the craze started. You might have missed them or ignored them because they are Vampire Books. These are the good ones. You should give them a chance.
Infinite Days by Rebecca Maizel
This is the best vampire book I’ve read in years. I’ve never read anything like it. The world building and back story were pretty magnificent. The writing is gorgeous. This one id highly, highly recommended.
The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa
It’s Julie Kagawa and it has vampires. That equals awesome.
The Society of S by Susan Hubbard
This series is called Ethical Vampire…and I’m not talking about vegetarian vampires that eat deer. These are a whole different breed of vamps. Plus, the stories are just so well done.
Sunshine by Robin McKinley
A shy girl who loves to bake meets a vampire. Oh yes. Talk about unique. There is certainly no other ‘vampire book’ out there like this one. Plus, it’s Robin McKinley! She’s amazing.
The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
I read this years ago. Before blogging was even thought of (for me). Whoa, was it good. It’s long and the pacing is pretty slow, but it’s one of those books that pays off. It was incredible. I would love to read it again.
Do you have any vampire books you would recommend for readers that are sick of vampires?
