I’ve been in a reading slump for a few weeks now. I’ve picked up and put down countless books because I just can’t seem to be interested in them. My husband even commented that the book I was reading must not be very good since I was watching TV with him. It’s not that it wasn’t good…it’s just that I hate them all. At least that’s what it feels like sometimes. I think I’ve found a cure. It involves lots of sad and/or disturbing books. I’ll prove it! Here are the last three books I’ve actually started and finished:
Such a Pretty Girl by Laura Weiss — About a girl who has been molested by her father.
Want to Go Private by Sarah Littman — Internet predators.
Before I Die by Jenny Downham — A girl dying of cancer.
Cheery, huh? I’m not sure what this says about me…Anytime I’m in a slump I need contemporary reads, but this time it’s just been sad sad books. What do you guys read to get out of slumps? Do you have a foolproof genre or a certain book you reread? Do you think I’m crazy for reading such depressing books?
