Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the awesome people at The Broke and the Bookish

This week’s topic is: Top Ten Bookish Goals for 2013

let it be

My number 1 goal is to let this blog be. I need to let it go a little and I really want to not be sad about that. I’m going to stop posting everyday soon, because there’s so much I need to do in the next 6 months and reading has to stop being the top priority. I want to blog and read when I can and not feel guilty when I can’t. I just need to let all bookish and blogging things be. Four years of lots of blogging and lots of reading is going to be a hard habit to break.

keep commenting

I’m going to make sure that even if I’m too busy or wore out to read I still interact with you guys. I love you all so much and I definitely want to stay really involved in the co0mmunity by commenting and by Twitter.

baby books

I really want to read some baby’s first year and books like that.

temptation

Don’t request every book on Netgalley. Don’t request every book in Netgalley. Don’t request every book in Netgalley.

Have Fun

This year is going to be an extraordinary experience for me. I want to enjoy every second of it. Even the sleepless nights.

  1. Amen to having fun with blogging! Good luck in achieving your blogging & bookish goals this year :-)

  2. I think you have some very good goals for this year. Obviously this is going to be an awesome year for you and you should definitely enjoy it as much as possible! :) Also: not requesting every book on NetGalley is probably a good one for me too haha! I should be a little less ‘OH GIVE ME ALL THE BOOKS’ and a little more ‘give me the books that I actually want to and can read’. But we’ll see about that… ;)

  3. I don’t post every day but it is a struggle to keep blogging sometimes. I’ve been struggling with wrist problems since last January that are made worse by all the time I spent on the computer so I can definitely understand goal #1. It isn’t easy. I always feel guilty if I haven’t posted as much as usual. I also am often tempted by NetGalley and Edelweiss to take on more requests than I can handle :)

I hope you do enjoy this season of your life! I am sure that all your readers will understand your need to prioritize

  5. You set good goals. I think it’s hard to not let blogging overtake your life, it happens so easily, but honestly I’ve never thought posting everyday is a necessity and like you say, you have big things coming up. I am definitely staying away from NG this year!!

  6. Great goals! I need to work on 4 myself, lol. Good luck!

  7. Those are fabulous goals!! Your number 1 is mine too. I really need to not worry about having something to post everyday. This is fun, I don’t want it to feel like a chore or something I get stressed over.

  8. haha I love number 4. I too have a weakness for Netgalley and Edelweiss. Well, and the library. I can’t handle so many free books in one place! I definitely get request happy.

  9. With a lot of my favorite bloggers becoming mamas this year, I am very excited for y’all! I can’t imagine running a successful blog like yours & tackling motherhood at the same time. I don’t know how bloggers do that. I commend you for recognizing it and willing yourself to step back a bit. Books will always be here :) Remember that.

  10. Great goals! I need to work on #4, as every time I log on, I go a little crazy! Good luck with your goals, and hope 2013 is a great year for you!

  12. For me, not giving into temptation is actually prioritizing my time so I’m not reading 24/7 and doing actual schoolwork. It’s so hard to do!! Great List!

  13. A million yes’s to #1 and #4. I’m doing better about not requesting so much, but sometimes I still stress about stats. I need to let that go. lol So I’m right there with you :)

  14. I feel like I need to read some baby books too. I’m like.. we’re going to get a foster placement soon. Maybe I should really read some of those parenting books NOW. YIKES. Such a scary thought! Haha!

  15. These are awesome goals, Lori! Just think about all the fun picture books and MG books you’ll soon get to blog about :) My daughter was part of the inspiration to get me into reading and blogging and I’m excited to see how your blog evolves when you have a baby in the mix!

  16. There is so nothing wrong with letting things be, especially with your becoming a mama this year. :) I think your goals are doable and reasonable as well. You’re going to be busy, so that means reading takes a back-seat. It doesn’t mean you won’t be reading at all though, which is good. I highly recommend also looking at some picture books and maybe even board books to figure out what reading material you’re going to have for your little one, too. If you have the time. :) Good luck this year, Lori!

  17. I hear you on blogging guilt and the temptation to request every book ever on NetGalley. Best of luck with your goals and blessings as your life changes!

  18. Blogging is definitely hard when you have young children, but I wouldn’t worry you will be so in love with your new addition you probably wont want to spend time away blogging or reading anyway!

  22. Great list, Lori!! I totally agree with the commenting thing. Sometimes I get lazy about responding to comments on my blog or commenting on other people’s blog posts. I really need to be better about that!

Good luck with your goals, ESPECIALLY number 3!!!!! So exciting :)

  23. Not to request netgalley is very hard LOL I too want to read everything that looks good LOL and to have fun is very important, I think sometimes after you’ve been blogging for several years you loose your focus and you bend into the pressure.

We will miss you and this blog ;)

  26. All of these are on my list too – I need to do more of number 1 as well. I have a different reason than you, but I decided that this year I’m not putting an effort on posting everyday or anything. With my new university that I am loving, I just don’t have as much time for blogging it seems.

  27. Oh, number 4 is something I need to work on as well! I do well for like a week, and then I fall off the bandwagon and request EVERYTHING. Here’s to hoping we learn our lesson this year!

Regarding this one: ugh Netgalley is so hard to stay away from; they have so many pretty covers and everything looks good so I hope you are able to achieve this goal :)

  30. Those sound like good goals. I blogged every day this last year and it about killed me. I had to take a couple of weeks (months) off to catch up with myself. I felt stressed all the time and I was glued to a book or the computer all the time. I’m changing that this year. And I’m requesting less from NetGalley too. I have to live outside of the blogging community.

    Good luck to you!

  31. These are great goals! I am definitely with you on most of them. I actually wrote recently about how interacting with other bloggers was something I wish I had continued to do, but I had lost track of it somewhere along the way. I hope to redo that by commenting more on the posts I’m reading, like this! And hahaha I’m also with you on #4. I have a terrible Netgalley review ratio for that reason. Good luck on keeping these goals!! :)
