This week’s topic is: Top Ten Topics That Instantly Make Me Buy/Pick Up A Book

topics1

I’m not sure what it is but I always have a lot of interest in LGBT books. This interest lead me to some books that I absolutely love like The Miseducation of Cameron Post,

topics2

I always want to read books where there’s some kind of unique magic involved like Shadow and Bone, The Girl of Fire and Thorns etc.

topics3

There’s a book that comes out next year called The Truth About Alice Franklin and when it was announced in PW it was compared to FNL. Um, YES! I need more FNL-like books in my life. Another good one is In Honor with the Riggins like love interest. Yum…

topics4

Witches are the only species that will make me pick up a paranormal book quickly these days. Born Wicked is a good example of that paying off.

topics5

If the blurb says swoon-worthy or if a trusty blogger friend uses that phrase I must read it!

topics6

Another phrase that will guarantee I read a book. Especially from my favorite bloggers!

topics7

I looove books with great atmosphere and that words makes me add a book to my TBR so fast. A perfect example: Masque of the Red Death. I would never had read that book otherwise.

topics8

I can’t help it! I like sad books!

topics9

I’m a 90′s kid so I always want to read books set back then. Supergirl Mixtapes and Jessica Darling are some really good ones.

topics10

Who doesn’t love road trip books!?

  1. Oooo ‘atmospheric’! Good choice! That always grabs me too. I love great settings – that’s such a quick way to totally suck me into the story.

  3. LOVE your list and … seriously you are only telling me now that “In Honor” has a Tim Riggins like boy??!?! I NEED THIS BOOK now! I Loved FNL – I was addicted to this series.. so so much!

But unlike you, Magic turns me off reading a book. I love Paranormal but Magic? Hm..

But I think my biggest not-pickupable topic would be Ghosts … I just don’t like ghosts!

  6. Oh, some of these are ones I didn’t think of but definitely appeal to me. Growing up in the 90s, I think books set in that time frame would be fun to read. I might have to check out the two you linked to! And the other topic I’m interested in is LGBT. So there’s ANOTHER book on my TBR list! Great stuff!

  7. Whoa, great list! I totally agree with everything that you listed. Though I totally need to read more witch books, I’ve just never really been into them and when I try I tend to not love them, but I’ll give Born Wicked a shot!

  8. So funny, I have the LGBT-point on my list as well – I guess I didn’t think there was somebody else! I have to admit that I’m a little over romance, so it takes me a while to read something called swoon-worthy. Awesome list though. :)

  11. Great list. I totally agree, LGBT, magic, and witches are great topics to make me pick up books too. I forgot to add LGBT to my list, I really should have done. I really enjoyed finding out why you’d picked the topics.

  17. SWOONWORTHY! Yes, that’s my #1!
Also I love atmospheric books even though that didn’t make my list and your example is perfect. And heartbreaking – yes, yes, so much. I said “doomed romances” which is one form of heartbreaking even though there are a bazillion kinds but I’m SO ATTRACTED to doomed or impossible romances.

But bring on the swoons!! Fun list, Lori!

  21. AH! I started writing this TTT last night and then gave up because I could not think of 10 but LGBT would have so been mine too. You should check out the books by JH Trumble. She is an absolutely lovely and engaging writing with powerful character dynamics.

    ROAD TRIP! woot woot

  22. Great list. Atmospheric books always get me too. Even if the plot or pacing isn’t perfect then I can usually enjoy the atmosphere of the book.

  23. When I hear “magic” I’m definitely excited to read it. “A favorite” is also a word that makes me curious about a book.

  25. LOL. Roadtrip books aren’t my favorite. It’s not like I won’t read them, but if I see it’s about a roadtrip, the book tends to be pushed toward the bottom of my TBR pile.

But swoonworthy books – Definitely love those! :)

  33. I always try to read the books my fellow bloggers love. The word Swoon almost always makes me pick up a book as well as books about witches. I steer away from “heart-breaking” if I can help it, but sometimes I’ll pick up a weeper. Great list!

But I’ve never read a good witch book and Bonnie from TVD has made me just about hate witches so…but, I haven’t given up on them yet. I have yet to read Born Wicked. I love the atmospheric word you chose, it instantly made me think of the upcoming book titled Afterparty by Ann Redisch Stampler. I also can’t resist a heartbreaking books, some days you just need to feels all the feels!
