An Introduction to You and Your Blog
What’s your name? Where in the world are you blogging from?
Hi! I’m Lori and I’m from the USA. Tennessee, to be exact.
Tell us your history with reading. Were you always a reader? Were you a reluctant reader?
I was actually a reluctant reader as a young child. I didn’t start loving reading until middle school.
Was there a book that convinced you to become a reader?
Yes! The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton changed my life. 🙂
How did you get involved in the online book community?
I joined Shelfari way back in 2007 or early 2008. I quickly fell in love with the boards and discussing books. I became friends with several other book lovers. We eventually started blogs later in ’08, as a way to keep up with a reading challenge we were doing. That’s all it was at first, but I eventually discovered other book blogs (The Story Siren and Presenting Lenore) and decided I wanted to do that. Here I am 8 years later!
How did you choose your primary platform (blog, Instagram, YouTube, etc)? How did you come up with your blog name?
It was easy because there was a Bookstagram or BookTube back then. 😉 BookTube was really starting to take off when I took a step back when Finn was born. I used to do a few book haul videos but I’m too boring and shy to be a BookTuber! I started Bookstagramming last year and I love it! (Loriimagination) I spend just as much time on Instagram as I do here these days. As for my blog name, I always loved the Willy Wonka song and books and imagination go so well together.
What’s your favorite thing about the online book community?
I love discussing books and discovering new ones. I also love how nice everyone is. I know there can be some drama, but I have ventured out into other online communities and this one is definitely very nice compared to others.
What sort of posts can readers expect from you?
I’m working on writing more discussion posts this year! I post a review once a week. I also love Top Ten Tuesday and I sometimes share a Waiting on Wednesday pick. Other various posts are Book Breakups, book subscription box reviews/unboxings, and cover changes, and giveaways. I also have a weekly link up for posts and giveaways, Saturday Situation.
What book genres do you talk about most?
Mostly YA fantasy and contemporary. I read the occasional adult book.
Favorite food? Beverage?
I love pasta and chocolate, not together though. Coffee gives me life! I drink water any other time.
Teal, at the moment.
Favorite things to do apart from reading?
Chase my 2 little boys around! I also love hiking and using my planner.
Favorite tv shows?
I haven’t watched a lot of TV in the last 3.5 years. I know I’m missing out on some good stuff. Here my old favorites: Gilmore Girls, Friday Night Lights, Sherlock, Friends, and The Office.
The Shawshank Redemption, Forrest Gump, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and the Harry Potter movies.
Favorite musical artists?
Tool, Metallica, Kings of Leon, Muse, and I’ve been loving Ghost recently.
Favorite places to shop?
Target! *heart eyes* Also, Amazon, Michael’s, and Etsy.
Favorite childhood books?
I loved Freak the Mighty, The Outsiders, Weeping Willow, The Giver, and Speak! I read Speak over and over in middle school.
Favorite books read in the last five years?
Wow…I’m going to try hard not to list a million books here. I make no promises. Lumatere Chronicles by Melina Marchetta, The Grisha Trilogy and the Six of Crows duology, The Girl of Fire and Thorns trilogy by Rae Carson, Eleanor & Park and Attachments by Rainbow Rowell, The Way I Used to Be by Amber Smith, Stephanie Perkins’ books, and The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. I better stop…
Fantasy, specifically high fantasy, and contemporary.
Underrated book, series or author you love?
The Dairy Queen books by Catherine Gilbert Murdock, the Lumatere Chronicles by Melina Marchetta, The Way I Used to Be by Amber Smith, Chime by Franny Billingsley, I Now Pronounce You Someone Else by Erin McCahan and Please Ignore Vera Dietz by A.S. King. I feel like all of those deserve more love.
A book you want to see made into a film or tv show?
I would love to see the Grisha trilogy or Six of Crows on the big screen, but it would be hard to pull off. The Night Circus would be incredible if done right.
Book boyfriend/girlfriend? Book BFF? Book family?
Jamie Fraser, Noah Shaw, Elias Victorious, Cricket Bell, and Tucker Avery. Sigh…
Books you want to read in 2017?
Jane, Unlimited by Kristin Cashore, The Becoming of Noah Shaw by Michelle Hodkin, Into the Bright Unknown by Rae Carson, Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh, When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon, Anne of Green Gables, The Diviners #3, and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han. And sooo many more!
