Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the awesome people at The Broke and the Bookish
This week’s topic is: Freebie week!
I actually planned to post this Valentine’s week but didn’t finish it in time. So here it is now! 🙂
I know some people love this, but I’m not one of them. All that unnecessary conflict and tension when you know how things are going to end just annoys me. This is the main reason that I don’t read a lot of adult romance or rom-coms. They always seem to have a hate to love trope.
I put an asterisk beside this one because there’s quite a few love triangles I didn’t mind. It has to be written a certain way for me to enjoy it and most of the time they aren’t. Katniss/Peeta/Gale didn’t bother me because it made sense. There were reasons. It wasn’t just, here’s a pretty girl and here’s two pretty boys who loooove her.
This should probably say assholes. I like a bad boy exterior but sensitive heart just as much as the next girl. What I hate is when when the bad boy is an ass to the the main character and then they magically fall in love. I haven’t came across this one in awhile. I’m not sure if it doesn’t happen as much or if I stopped reading these types of books? It seemed to be popular in paranormal YA. I don’t read much paranormal these days, so that could be why I haven’t seen it lately. Either way, I don’t miss it.
Another asterisk because sometimes this is fine. When there’s an actual valid and believable reason for why they can’t be together at the moment. I hate it when the reason is flimsy or they can’t be together just because they have no communication skills. OMG! Just talk to each other!
