I had a really fantastic reading month back in March. Every book I read that month was 4 and 5 stars. I ended the month with The Upside of Unrequited, which I ADORED! Thus leading to a horrible slump during the first half of April. I DNFed 3 books…I’m still a little on the fence about 2 of them. I feel like I should give them another chance, but honestly, I probably won’t. Here’s the poor victims of the slump:
I was so excited to read this one! It sounded like a perfect summer read. It doesn’t hurt that the cover is gorgeous too. If I’m being perfectly honest, this probably could have been a 3 start book for me if I would have read it a few years ago, when I had more patience. The premise was good. I love when an MC is shipped off or has to get out of her comfort zone. My problem with the book was that I was bored and the main character wasn’t super likeable. She was pretty self-centered. I’m sure she had good growth but like I said, I was bored so I didn’t stick around to find out. I tried to get into the book for days! I kept falling asleep before finishing one chapter or putting off picking it up. I think I called it quits around 40%. This wasn’t a bad book! It just wasn’t the book I wanted to read at the time.
This was one of my most anticipated books of the year. I’m sad that it’s on this list. It had so much promise, but I just couldn’t get into it. I wasn’t loving the characters and I just didn’t look forward to picking it up. I think my expectations might have been too high and it just didn’t deliver quick enough. I think I only read 60 pages. Maybe I didn’t give it a fair chance? I also didn’t like how Dimple treated Rishi. I’m not a big fan of hate to love.
This is another from my most anticipated list. I’m super disappointed. I’m not sure if I’m disappointed in the book or myself…I think I’m more disappointed in the book. I don’t think this one was all my mood. I read around 60% in this and I’m pretty sure that nothing happened in that time. There was a little bit of action at the beginning. That got me interested, but then….nothing after that. I was bored to tears. Things might have been picking up around the time I set it aside, but by that point I was pretty uninterested. I feel a little guilty for setting it aside. I loved The Wrath and the Dawn, so I had some high hopes for this one. It wasn’t wasn’t delivering. There was a lot of things that didn’t make sense or were brushed aside and that annoyed me too. Plus, the MC did some really dumb stuff for someone so ‘smart’.
Have you read any of these? What did you think? What was the last book you DNFed?
What do you guys do about books you DNF from NetGalley/Edelweiss? Do you submit a short review of why you didn’t finish or just not submit anything?
