Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the awesome people at The Broke and the Bookish
This week’s topic is: This was a surprisingly hard topic. Moms are way underrepresented in YA. They’re either absent, dead, or horrible it seems. I also had a hard time remembering books I’d read with good Moms because being a mother has made my memory crap. Here’s some that I could remember–or read recently.
Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
Molly will always be my favorite fictional Mom.
Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
Marilla may have been stern but she was such a patient and good mother for Anne.
The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli
You get not one, but 2 amazing Moms in this one!
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
Marmee was an amazing mother to those girls.
Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta
This book had such a lovely mother daughter relationship.
If I Stay by Gayle Forman
This is a heartbreaking one, but I loved all the glimpses at the mother daughter relationaship.
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
The entire family was amazing in this one! It was my favorite part of the story.
How to Say I Love You Out Loud by Karole Cozzo
I loved the interactions with the MC’s mom in this one.
Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
I love how supportive Simon’s mom was.
Dairy Queen by Catherine Gilbert Murdock
I adore the family dynamics in this series!
Do you have any favorite fictional moms?
