In the first book of the Shaw Confessions, the companion series to the New York Times bestselling Mara Dyer novels, old skeletons are laid bare and new promises prove deadly. This is what happens after happily ever after.
Everyone thinks seventeen-year-old Noah Shaw has the world on a string.
Mara Dyer is the only one he trusts with his secrets and his future.
And both are scared that uncovering the truth about themselves will force them apart.
The Becoming of Noah Shaw was one of my most anticipated reads of the year. I was a ginormous fan of the Mara Dyer trilogy. I was thrilled to learn that there would be more from Noah’s POV.
It took me a bit to find my bearings in the story. I probably should’ve read a recap of the 3rd Mara book but I was too anxious to jump right in. That feeling of being a bit untethered, of never knowing exactly what was going on never went away though. There’s just a general WTF-ness to Michelle Hodkin’s books and I think this was probably the most WTF filled one yet.
Noah is the Noah we all fell in love with before. Being in his head was a bit different but I still loved him. He’s sexy, brooding, and angsty but his love and passion for Mara is extraordinary. I love him.
I do feel like most of the other characters fell a little flat. There’s so much going on in Noah’s head all the time, it’s hard to get a feel on everyone else. This also adds to the feeling of not knowing who is friend of foe, so it was probably done with purpose.
The Becoming of Noah Shaw was pretty impossible to put down despite not much happening in the book. It was captivating but I do hope that this one set up a lot of events for book two. I don’t think any questions were answered in this book, but I don’t expect them to be answered in the next one either. I’m just along for the WTF ride. I’m completely ready for that with Noah as my guide. Especially after that ending. Woah!
